Pelicano Bassboat

Sam Devlin has a reputation for designing really eye-catching "character" boats. Perish the thought, but I've even heard them described as "cute". Because of that, they are often underrated for their utility, sensibility, durability and performance. The Pelicano is a really excellent example of a comfortable, practical medium-sized skiff that really looks spectacular. The Devlin Pelicano is a versatile and useful real-world design because Sam has designed five separate "flavors" on the basic fast, comfortable and rugged Pelicano hullform.

The Bassboat is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to maximize "livability" in a 18'-4" speedboat. The design has a spacious cabin forward, with enough space for a v-berth for the occasional camping weekend.  The design has ample dry storage below.

The Pelicano Hull is a very fast planing design, with a rugged purpleheart keel capped with a stainless rubrail to avoid damage if you want to poke ashore. That keel also accounts for her comfortable ride, because it helps to cut the water, thus minimizing pounding.

Like all Pelicanos, the maximum HP is 90, and you can realistically expect over 40mph with that kind of power.

The kit is assembled inverted over a computer-cut construction frame that indexes the bulkheads at the proper spacing, paralllel, axially-aligned and level. The hull panels are joined end-to-end with our engineered puzzle splices, avoiding the need for fiddly and difficult-to-align scarphing. From this sturdy foundation, you can be sure that you can build an accurate boat.

The basic kit is enough to build the bare hull, ready for rollover

The price of a Pelicano Bassboat kit is $5395 $4599. It includes 16 sheets of BS1088 marine ply, the construction jig, plans and assembly instructions. It is shipped on a 4' x 8' x 17.5" pallet weighing 1325#..

This kit does not include dimensional lumber or plywood for soles or cabin tops, as those are best fit on-site.
